Contact Robert Directly
As the son of an elementary teacher & general contractor in a small farming town in Southeastern Colorado, Robert Klob has been around construction sites for most of his life. His passion escalated when he was in his teens and met William “Bill” Nielsen, the only architect in nearly a 100-mile radius. Although he initially had aspirations to teach and follow his mother and grandmother, Robert became Bill’s apprentice and his 30+ year journey in Architecture began.
Robert attended several colleges in his quest to learn more about architecture, design, and drafting. During this time, he maintained a full-time position in an architectural studio & graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
Prior to starting his own design studio, Robert worked with both public and private design organizations. Some of these include USPS and the worldwide firm of DMJM. Robert also worked with smaller firms offering that one-on-one service. This experience allowed Robert to hone his skills on a variety of design projects - from new Post Offices to Hotels, Apartments, Condominiums, Churches, High-Rises, Shopping Centers, Restaurants, Offices, Retail, and ultimately his true love, Homes.

In 1992 Robert opened what would become Robert Klob Designs. This new endeavor was started to provide consulting services to architects and builders. It quickly grew into a full-service design firm. Since 1998 he has specialized in the residential sector providing designs for Custom Homes, Production Homes, Remodels & Additions. Since RKD’s inception, Robert has designed or consulted on over 3,000 homes.

In 2005, Mr. Klob became interested in the growing popularity of Insulated Concrete Forms. Having negative experiences on two previous ICF projects, he vowed to make the process different. Robert became one of the few design professionals in the country that was also a certified ICF installer. While he had no intentions of actually installing the systems, Robert reasoned that “If you don't know it works, how can you possibly design with it correctly or solve problems in the field?”

He started writing about ICFs for regional and national publications, speaking at industry events and giving lectures at universities. Robert has provided ICF training for builders, municipalities & Inspectors. In 2015, he gathered with a team of ICF industry leaders and started the ICF Builders Group, a grassroots trade organization to support the entire ICF industry.

Mr. Klob is active with several volunteer organizations and dedicates his time, talents and resources to them. He is a Director for the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) and is a regular technical & design consultant for several Home Owners Associations. In addition, Robert is a Planning & Zoning Commissioner for the City of Chandler, Arizona. In this capacity, he helps regulate zoning approvals, design review and ensuring new construction meets or exceeds the city's development standards.

Robert prides himself in listening to his customers' needs & their desires. He also digs into his roots and educates them about the processes and pros & cons of the building experience.

Robert has been involved in many exciting projects. Some of the more notable are:
-
Extreme Makeover, Home Addition - Design Team, Gilbert AZ
-
Pool Redesign in Chase Field, Home of the Arizona Diamondbacks
-
Consultant for a Habitat for Humanity home.
-
Primary Design Consultant for City of Phoenix Infill Housing (low-income)
-
Cultural Design and ICF homes for several Native American Communities.
But his most important accomplishment? 100s of happy customers!
When not designing, Robert loves to travel with his childhood sweetheart & wife, Paula. They have 2 furry friends at home - Bichon & Toy Poodle. Robert & Paula also have 4 grown children (grandchildren soon, hint, hint) who are becoming wonderful adults that make them proud every day.
